The Twilight Grammatical Error

by Ann-Katrina

(“Grammatical errors in Twilight?” is searched for so often that I felt it deserved its own post.)

Twilight book cover First, there are many grammatical errors in Twilight, however, in my opinion, the worst is the one that happens on page nine since it’s glaring* and should have been caught within the first or second round of edits.

“The room was familiar; it had been belonged to me since I was born.” –Twilight pg. 9 (technically 7 if we go by the start of the chapter)

Various sources tell me that this has been fixed in later reprints, so I’m hoping that means my edition is a collector’s item and one day I’ll be able to sell it on eBay for a bazillion dollars. Anyone care to make me an offer? :)

*Did you see what I did there? (I understand that only those who’ve read the book will probably get it.)

I’m not surprised that that series had a million grammatical errors. There is a man named Alex Day on youtube that reads the first book out loud and makes comments on her poor writing as well as the grammar. I might have an early edition too.

It makes me wonder, how did they NOT catch the mistake??

    Margaret,
Frankly, I think they were just rushing to get it to print or something. Or maybe they didn’t expect it to blow up as much as it did and just gave it a cursory glance over rather than shell out the extra dough for a proper edit. Who knows?

Oh, and because you have an early edition, too, does that mean you’re not interested in bidding on mine? LOL

BTW, Margaret, I had to come back and spam my own comments just to say…I’ve just watched the Alex Day YouTube videos and OMG I have a tear in my eye from laughing so hard. “Handsomer? Is that even a word?” Best. Videos. Ever.

“Grammar, something you probably want to work on for the sequel.” ROFL

How did she ever get published? There are so many promising writers out there who cannot get a publisher :o
